Weekly Reading Story Information for Sept. 26th-30th

 This week in reading we will read the story "Julius" wriiten by Angela Johnson and illustarted by Dav Pilkey.  We will focus on the targeted skill of characters.  We will begin to focus on one letter per week now with our reading series.  This week's letter of the week is Mm.  We will learn to identify it in print as well as produce it's phonics sound.  Our class will spiral review such topics as setting, plot, rhyming, sequence, syllables, same beginning sounds, previewing  and predicting.

Weekly Reading Story Information for Sept. 19th-23rd

    Miss Bindergarten Takes a Field Trip with Kindergarten (Picture Puffin Books) Cover This week in reading we will read the story "Miss Bindergarten Takes a Field Trip".  Our focus is on the letters and phonics of  Tt, Uu, Vv, Ww, Xx, Yy, and Zz.  We will review and practice the sight words of  the and little.  Our classroom targeted skill is classification and catergorizing.  We will spiral review the skills of characters, setting, rhyming, and initial sounds.  We will introduce our new vocabulary words this week of bakery, post office, fire station, library, park, and chaperone.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     This week in reading we will share the story "Plaidypus Lost" wriiten and illustrated by Janet Stevens and Susan Stevens Crummel.  Our vocabulary words are platypus, market, found, lost, groceries, and around. We will cover the targeted skill of comparing the same beginning sounds.  Our class class will also review sequencing, characters, setting, and rhyming.  The letters of the week are Oo, Pp, Qq, Rr, and Ss.  This story's sight words to practice and memorize are the and little.

Pizza Hut Spirit Night



One night each month our school will have a Pizza Hut night.  On this night, 10% of the schools total sales will be donated back to Watt Hardsion by Pizza Hut.  This is an easy way to earn extra money for the school while having a fun night out with the family.  The date each month will be found on your child's weekly newsletter or monthly calendar.  Can't wait to see you there!

A Little About Mrs. Holmes
Dear Parents,
Hello, My name is Alisa Jo Holmes. I am the daughter of Steve and Barbara White of Portland. I have lived in Portland all my life, and graduated here in the year 2000. I then went to Volunteer State Community College and received my Associates’ Degree in Elementary Education in 2002. Following that, I attended Tennessee State University and received my Bachelors Degree in 2004. After college, I married my husband Kelly Holmes in 2005. We now have a beautiful son together named Koleman. He is 3 years old and is the joy of my life.
I have taught kindergarten for eight wonderful years. All my teaching experience has been here at Watt Hardison Elementary. I look forward to making this year great with your child. If I can be of any assistance this year, please feel free to call me at 325-3233 between 2:00-3:30 p.m. and I will try to answer any questions you may have.

This week we will be reading the story "Fix It Duck" written by Jez Alborough. Our targeted skill is to introduce settings and syllables.  We will have the amazing vocabulary words of shed, steep, puddles, leak, and repair.  We will continue to focus on reading the sight words I and am.  Our class will also be introduced to the letters Ff, Gg, Hh, Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm, and Nn.

Weekly Reading Story Information Aug. 29th- Sept. 2nd

We will be reading the story "The Little School Bus"  wriiten by Carol Roth and illustrated by Pamela Paparone in our class.  Our targeted skill this week is characters.  We will focus on reading the sight words I, and am.  The vocabulary words to be covered include first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth.  We will also touch on rhyming throughout the story, as well as introducing the letters Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, and Ee.
